Named after Dr. Philip Phillips, a notable figure in the citrus industry, not only for his work with citrus and responsible for inventing the "flash" Pasteurization Process. Dr. Phillips is recognized for his incredible charitable efforts and philinthropic actions. He donated millions of dollars to charities and social services, helped create the Dr. Phillips Memorial Hospital. In 1953 the Dr. P Phillips Foundation was established to help with charitable needs in Central Florida.
